Our Cross-Cutting Commitments

These are not separate programmes

They are conditions we build into every cohort, because without them the core work fails.

Climate-smart interventions

Karamoja is drying. We do not train young people for livelihoods that the next drought will destroy. Climate resilience is a filter applied to every trade we select.

Peace-positive livelihoods

Employment is the most durable disincentive to raiding available to us. We target young men at the point of recruitment, mix cohorts across clans and across the raider and raid-affected divide, and treat reduced participation in raiding as an outcome we design for.

Built into every cohort

  • Climate resilience as a filter on every trade
  • Mixed cohorts across clans and divides
  • Targeting at the point of recruitment
  • Reduced raiding as a designed outcome

Gender equity and safe participation

We address the real reasons young women do not finish training: pregnancy, childcare, unsafe accommodation and unsafe transport. Sexual and reproductive health information and referral is a safeguarding and retention measure, delivered through partners who hold the clinical mandate.

Accountability and youth voice

Clean books, published results, and honest reporting of what did not work. We are led by young people and answerable to them.

Given the young people we serve, safeguarding is treated as a precondition of delivery rather than a compliance formality, and no cohort will commence before it is adopted with a named focal person and a functioning reporting procedure.
