Skill & Equip Youth Initiative for Karamoja (SEYIK) is a registered, community-based, youth-led organisation founded in 2024 by young people of Karamoja, for young people. A member of the Karamoja NGOs implementing partners, Karamoja Youth Partnerships coalition and Civic Advisory Hub.
We exist for one reason: to move young people in Karamoja out of idleness and into dignified, paid work. We do this by equipping them with market-relevant skills, nationally recognised certification, and a direct route into employment or self-employment and not job seeking.
We are a specialist organisation, and we intend to stay one. Karamoja has no shortage of organisations that do a little of everything. It has very few that take responsibility for the only question that finally matters: is this young person earning a living twelve months after we trained them? That is the question we hold ourselves accountable to, and the standard by which we ask to be judged.
We do not train young people and count them. We train them, certify them, place them, and follow them.
Direction
A Karamoja where every young person has a skill, a livelihood, and a fair chance to earn a dignified living by 2040.
To equip young people in Karamoja with market-relevant skills, recognised certification and direct pathways into work so they earn dignified, sustainable livelihoods in their own communities.
By 2040: 1,000 young people in Karamoja skilled, certified and earning a verified income after 10 years down the road.
By 2040: Skilling-to-employment pathways established across Karamoja, with measurably reduced youth disconnection from work, education and training in the communities we serve.
Who We Serve
Karachuna who have lost herds to raiding, drought or disarmament and now live idle in the town councils — including those at high risk of being drawn into armed raiding, and those returning from it. For many, raiding remains the only economically rational option available. Our work is to ensure it is not the only one. Every cohort also includes young people from raid-affected households, so that training becomes a place of reconciliation rather than resentment.
Including young mothers, and those who returned home or fled to town with no means of support and no route back into education. For this group, childcare provision, flexible scheduling and female facilitators are built in as standard because these are the practical reasons girls drop out, and removing them is the difference between enrolment and completion.
These are the young people we serve. We do not widen this definition opportunistically. Where an opportunity requires a group outside it, we decline it or we revise our strategy openly — we do not quietly become something else.
